In art Rustam Turaev is a dreamer, a philosopher and romantic sometimes

His paintings carry away from the dull reality to the aloof world of art with no place for rude feelings, pragmatism and rationalism, to the world with a light fragrance of decadence. Non-imposing retrospectiveness pertaining to a lot of his images does not have the exact address and is drawn towards a fairly wide time range - from the last decades of the last century till the first years of this century when the Parisian school was gaining strength and the European art was touched by a refreshing and exotic “wind from the East”- the Middle and the Far East.

Artist’s obvious advantage is his confident professionalism, brilliant “school”, that we can notice with a pleasure in his plastic experiments. He founds a special structure for every form. In this structure, he is working with color and details, trying to find emotional and sensitive tints of this form.

He can feel the composition with gracefulness: balances empty places with an object, a form- with plain, pictorial parts-with empty canvas.

He can easily, by a touch of his paintbrush, find a form, give it a sculpture volume and put it into the pictorial surrounding. The picture size is not just a canvas that he found; it is an important part of form. Traditional way of drawing is working with design.

Turaev uses the eastern principles of art as guidelines in his desire to “transfer” the reality into another aesthetic and abstract level. In his landscapes, that sometimes can be called elegies, empty place can be sound with a terrible sadness. Eastern beauty can be hardly recognized in lots of clothes. Dark faced old men: poets, shopkeepers – seem to be signs of wisdom, who are keeping secrets of East.

Literary and mythology reminiscence – is a special feature of many forms in Turaev’s paintings.

In his best works, he can express things that cannot be seen by everybody, European symbolists respected this art. Now he is getting free of a straight influence, that means a big work was done.

We do not always agree with him, but it is his art way.
